Nothing says “Happy Birthday” like a homemade cake custom-made to celebrate the individual!

Pizza CakeDEEP DISH PIZZA CAKE:
Bake cake in a 10″ round pan as directed. Cool. Remove from pan. Slice off top so cake is even. Add red and brown food coloring to white frosting (pizza sauce). Frost the cake, leaving some edges not frosted to give the appearance of pizza crust. Top with a little bit of shaved white chocolate (cheese).

Place cake under the broiler on high for one to two minutes. This should brown the edges and darken your frosting to look more like pizza sauce. Remove from oven. Top with fruit roll-ups (pepperoni) and fruit snacks (green olives), or any other toppings you’d like. Be creative! Top with more white chocolate shavings.

TIP: For ease in slicing, slice before adding the fruit roll-ups.

Beach CakeBEACH CAKE:
Bake cake mix in two round pans as directed. Cool. Flip onto round plate, layering with frosting in between. Mix up frosting recipe (right). Fold 1 tsp. powdered baking cocoa into just less than half the frosting to create a light tan. Into the remaining frosting, add blue food coloring to create light blue water. Use knife to create wisps to make waves in the blue area. White sugar sprinkled over the tan portion will create the illusion of real sand. Place clean Polly Pocket toys in swimwear to complete your beach scene.

CREAM CHEESE FROSTING:
4 oz. cream cheese
2 Tbsp. butter, room temp.
1 Tbsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
2 to 3 c. powdered sugar
Food coloring as desired

TIP: This scene also works with other small toys such as Nemo the fish or the Little Mermaid.

Spongebob CakeSPONGE BOB CAKE:
Bake cake in 9×13 cake pan as directed. Cool. Flip out onto cookie sheet. Mix up frosting recipe, dividing it to create different colors, mainly yellow. Frost with various colors.
Outline the character’s features with black gel frosting, purchased at a local grocery store.

PURSE CAKE:
Purse CakeBake cake in a standard Pyrex square baking dish with rounded corners. (A round or square pan may be substituted, but your purse will have a different shape.) Cool. Flip out onto flat surface. Cut cake in half and flip up halves so rounded edges are on top, as shown. Frost and decorate your purse as desired.

TIP: We chose licorice for handles and Sweet Tarts candy for polka dots. A pretzel makes a great clasp. Candy bracelets and candy coins also look great beside it as accessories.

CATERPILLAR CAKE:
Caterpiller CakeBake cake in a standard bundt pan. Cool. Remove from pan and cut in half. Turn half and place end to end as shown. Frost with green frosting and decorate as desired.

TIP: Candy canes or licorice serve as great antennae. M&Ms or Sweet Tarts make great eyes and polka dots.

PRINCESS CAKE:
Princess CakeBake two cakes – one in an oven-proof Pyrex bowl, and the other in a round baking pan. Cool. Put the round onto a cake plate, and turn the bowl cake upside down on top of it. Trim a hole in the center to fit the legs of a pre-cleaned Barbie, who will serve as your princess. Insert Barbie. Frost the skirt and decorate as desired, fashioning it after
your favorite princess.

TIP: Your cakes must be tall enough to come up to the Barbie’s waist. If not, be prepared to add a little frosting around her waistline.
